  • Speedo Issues

    Hey folks
    next issue

Speedo reads zero. Doesnt jump, doesnt bounce, just rolls a donut.

gearbox seems to shift fine etc, all other gauges appear to read fine (maybe fuel gauge issues not sure on that one yet)...

anyone have thoughts on this?? or first things to check??
ECU plugs are all in properly, and I've reseated them just to be sure.

Speedo is fed directly from the gearbox speed sensor. Check the sender itself, trace the three wires back through for any breakages. Check them for continuity by taking gauge cluster out and accessing each end.

Awesome Loonie! I knew your unlimited knowledge of Z20's wouldnt let me down...

I'd heard conflicting stories about where it came from...

Half said it was direct, the other half said from the ECU, ergo - shifting issues etc with the A340e based on not changing gears cause of speed sensor.

Will go hunting with the multimeter tomorrow.

May be up for a new speed sensor me thinks, cause I found what looks like half a speed gear in the centre console of the new z20 (shaft and plastic sprocket / geardrive) So im thinking it may be out of the gearbox ><

Gauge uses 3 Wire speed sensor.
ECU to change Automatic box gears uses 2 wire sensor.

Find out the colours of the wires for the speed sensor and find out which plug they are on in the car and test if each wire reads what it should and if there is continuity.
