  • single turbo setup

evening guys, found this on neesansilvia.

    http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/i...m&item_id=1527

thoughts? compatibility for a jza70 1j? price, condition, etc?

have never really gone into different turbo setups besides high flow so not really sure about different set ups. any input would be much appreciated.

    cheers

I did a quick google search and from what I read they seem like good bang for buck. You should start off by asking him why he's selling after only 1 track day. You should also look up information on that turbos size. I think the 25g is the bigger one. Might make 300kw but will probably lag. In my experience, response is everything.
Are you looking at upgrading to a big single? What other mods do you have? How much power do you need? What's the car being used for?

im definately contemplating the single turbo option. if i can get my hands on a relatively cheap setup thats capable of around 250 or more then hey, why not! haha
im basically looking to use this as a street daily then a bit further down the line start taking it to the odd track day. responsiveness is definately a bigger factor for me than big power numbers. so maybe id be better off just going the high flow of the stock twins route? in the end anything around 200 or a bit more is going to be more than enough for me

It seems a little too cheap for what it is though in all honesty.

Decent price range for a secondhand big single kit ranges from 2k-3k..

1200 is.. Well.. A score but just seems a bit too good to be true..

These turbos sell for $750 brand new on eBay. So $1200 for 2nd hand turbo, no-name manifold and gate is about right.

There's a fair bit of discussion on the Silvia, skyline and wrx forums about them. Google kinugawa turbo review. They haven't really been around long enough to know how it'll last.

If you have a street car I'd recommend steel-wheeled twins. They're more legal than a big single and have awesome response. Standard twins on mine made 220kw @ 16psi (but the ceramic wheels didn't last), with instant response.

But, if you want to pioneer this turbo for all the 1jz owners that'd be great! It might be a winning combination for budget power.
