      easier way

jack the rear of your soarer up...
turn one wheel... see which way the other wheel turns.

      -same direction = LSD
      - opposite direction = open centre

this is all you need to know...
i guess the point to this is, if you have a different ratio'd diff, and you do your crown wheel, you will need a new pinion anyway... so ration doesnt matter all that much...
when in doubt (if you're keen to change this over yourself, though its no small task) is when in doubt, as long as the pinion and crownwheel fit, it will work

and if you are running an LSD, and blow the clutch packs ./ centre up, any toyota LSD will fit in the hole...
ie - Hilux Surf LSD centre will bolt up to a soarer crownwheel

beware changing ratio's though - you WILL change your speedo.

wow... can you tell im bored at work????

        how is that easier
that involves effort to jack the car up n turn the wheel etc
just remember last digit 3 or 5 is lsd.
so just open bonnet n look.. easy lol

          ahhh ok..
i didnt understand cause it says "how many pinions"..
if your diff has more then one pinion, you have issues :P

still not exactly sure what you mean... ><
          lol.

            lol.

In this scenario, translate "pinion" into "spider gear".

If you wanna know if it's an LSD or open wheeler just do a lil burnout and check the marks.

Not really, Toyota open differentials are notorious for spinning two wheels on occassion, but not reliably enough to drive safely. Toyota LSD's are generally so worn that they don't perform too much better than the open variety.

                  agreed.

if your open centre diff is spinning duals...

start looking for a new diff

Also, if you have a TORSEN, when jacked up they act like a open diff. so even if you have a torsen, and you turn one wheel, the other one will spin the opposite way.

Also i agree, how is jacking the car, both sides, putting it on stands, turning the wheel etc easier than opening the bonnet and reading a 4 digit code :P ??????? haha

                              GZ's generally a higher ratio then MZ's?
